A youth-led journey of reconnection & cultural work
Roots of Solidarity is a youth-led documentary and summer camp, facilitated by AudioVision in partnership with RIZE Youth Arts Organization. Reading, Pennsylvania youth document their community's Latino history through first-person testimony and archival research, then carry that work further, reconnecting with ancestral roots in Puerto Rico through film, art, and music. Support this project, and you're investing in the next generation of culture-bearers.
A first look at a journey of reconnection, with the youth interviewing the elders who lived it.
The Story Behind the Story
Roots of Solidarity began with the realization, shared by Edna Garcia-Dipini of RIZE Youth Arts Organization and other Reading community leaders, that their elders' stories had to be preserved before they were lost. Preserving that heritage isn't about the past alone, it's an investment in identity, healing, and belonging for the generation carrying it forward.
The production has completed a proof-of-concept screening and a shoot in Puerto Rico that traced the story back to its roots, and is now heading toward completion, with the film premiering on Three Kings Day.
Roots of Solidarity is just getting started. Your support helps equip the next generation of youth storytellers, and carries this story forward, along with the stories at risk of being lost.
